What can I expect during a periodontal treatment appointment?
During treatment, a dental hygienist or dentist will:
Probe gum pockets to assess disease severity.
Administer anesthesia as needed.
Deep‑clean areas below the gumline using instruments (hand or ultrasonic).
Appointments may be broken into two or more visits depending on severity, with each quadrant or half-mouth treated separately for patient comfort and thoroughness .
How should I care for my gums after treatment, and how often do I need follow‑up appointments?
Post-treatment care includes:
Maintaining excellent home hygiene with brushing twice a day, daily flossing, and possibly antiseptic rinses.
Scheduling periodontal maintenance visits every three months to remove any regrown plaque and monitor healing.
